Position Specifications:

Essential Functions

  • Drive the probe-specific optimization of database imaging parameters (55%)
    1. Applies his/her specialized skills in acoustics, or related field such as optics, radar, etc., to develop and optimize ultrasound transducers for various imaging modes such as B-mode, CD-mode, etc., on premium medical imaging systems for application on the human body in a clinical environment.
    2. This optimization work entails specifying many imaging parameters through an SQL database, the specification of which is determined through theoretical and numerical Matlab simulations, experimental measurements on phantoms and human bodies, as well as in a clinical environment.
  • Collaborate with clinical team members to guide optimization (20%)
    1. The work is led by the Staff Scientist with guidance and assistance from others within the Imaging Group, as well as in-house clinical sonographers.
    2. This work varies from re-optimization on current transducers based upon clinical and marketing feedback, to developing new transducers for current and new applications.
    3. During this optimization process, the Staff Scientist is required to identify any unexpected or undesirable behavior in the imaging system, and identify technical solutions or seek out help from others who can assist in resolving the issue through their technical expertise.
  • Work with imaging team members on the development of new signal processing algorithms (25%)
    1. Require to investigate new areas for advancing the field of medical ultrasound imaging through independent study, using theoretical, numerical, and experimental investigations, based upon their unique technical background and skill set.

This can be in the form of developing new signal processing algorithms, Matlab simulation tools, Matlab, C, DSP, or GPU software routines, as well as technical documents.

Knowledge/Educational Requirement

  • PhD in a related discipline (signal processing-based engineering, applied physics, electrical engineering), MS with exceptional related skills/experience will also be considered
