Job Description:

At Microchip FPGA group, we develop SOC FPGA compute platforms targeting a broad range of low power applications including smart embedded vision, industrial IOT, Access/Gateways/ Aggregation Networks, compute platforms for aerospace and defense.

As a Firmware Engineer, you'll work with a team of highly motivated Architects and Senior Designers to develop the specification and implementation of control firmware for our FPGAs. This firmware is the heart of our FPGAs, managing device configuration & startup, providing run-time services, and implements leading-edge security features. In addition to developing firmware for our next generation devices, you will also be responsible for maintaining patches for our existing products.

You will also work with the logic verification team to devise test strategies and debug problems. Additionally, you will support Product Engineering teams with customized firmware for silicon validation and failure analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a small team of junior engineers
  • Explore architectural options & analyze hardware/software trade-offs
  • Participate in development of firmware architecture specification
  • Implement & maintain device firmware
  • Support logic verification activities
  • Support silicon bring-up and debug activities
  • Maintain firmware patches for existing products
  • Maintain bug database and present status to product core team

Requirements/Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience
  • 15+ years of industry experience and experience of/desire to manage a small team
  • Experience developing embedded firmware in C & assembly language on ARM or RISC-V processors
  • Experience working with silicon and using lab equipment
  • Ability to understand Verilog and experience using logic simulators

Preferred qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Flash or SONOS non-volatile memory technology is a major plus
  • Experience working with FPGAs
  • Experience working with cryptographic algorithms, e.g. AES, SHA and Elliptic Curve
  • Experience with the RISC-V ISA
  • Experience working with ARM Cortex-M processors
  • Experience developing in Java

We offer a total compensation package that ranks among the best in the industry. It consists of competitive base pay, restricted stock units, and quarterly bonus payments. The annual base salary range for this position, which could be performed in California, is $75,000 - $232,000.*

*Range is dependent on numerous factors including job location, skills and experience.
