OVERVIEW:

Under the supervision of the Program Director and Deputy Director, the Intake Speciualist will guarantee all intake functions of the emergency shelter are met.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for intake tasks of the shelter, under direction of the Program Director and The Salvation Army Corps Officers or County Coordinators
  • Establishes and coordinates service provider presence at the emergency shelter program when necessary.
  • Acts as resource specialist with a knowledge of local social programs to refer guests to specific and appropriate services
  • Provides outreach and engagement for families/individuals experiencing homelessness who are seeking housing, health and employment services
  • Exercises the utmost discretion and confidentiality as required by SA policy, EEO and HIPAA
  • Ensures proper execution of intakes/screening, including the VI-SPDAT (Vulnerability Index-Service Prioritization Decision Assistance Tool) and HMIS Standardized Intake
  • Enters intake data and assessment into HMIS once an assessment has been completed
  • Possesses familiarity with agencies providing housing services in Santa Cruz County and the larger bay area
  • Coordinates with local SC programs to locate placements for families/individuals into emergency and/or transitional programs
  • Collaborates with fellow SC Intake and Outreach Specialists and participates in Smart Path to Housing and Health trainings as scheduled by the County of Santa Cruz Human Services Department
  • Any other duties relating to your job as requested by the Supervisors and/or Officers
  • Other related duties as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's/Associates Degree or equivalent job experience in program staff supervision
  • 1 year of Experience with diverse and disadvantaged populations
  • Professional licensure or qualified expertise in HMIS Intake and VI-SPDAT
  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple duties
  • Bilingual in Spanish (Preferred)
  • 21 years old (Required)

  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple duties
  • Possess maturity and confidentiality

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
