Sr. Opto-Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Santa Clara, CA
(on-site)
Job Term: Full-Time
The Opportunity:
The Opto-Mechanical Engineer will design optical systems for new production introduction (NPI), as well as opto-mechanical tooling in support of transfer-to-manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Work with other development engineers to create complex optical systems for new product development.
  • Thermal management of industrial and scientific instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with gas flow and pressure stability for sample measurements is a plus.
  • Document and release designs into PLM systems. Structure BOMs and write ECOs to release new designs.
  • Execute and refine build sequences specific to laser alignment, optics integration, optics alignment, and system calibration.
  • Interact with other design teams' groups to adhere to design objectives and support the transfer of product/technologies for release to manufacturing.
  • Participate in concept development, proposal quotes, detailed design, configuration definition, verification, qualification, manufacturing specification, and documentation of engineering activities, which lead to improved product, increased output and reduced cost.
  • Test and qualify optical components and modules. Work with suppliers to improve incoming material quality and acceptance.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree with at least 7+ years of experience OR Master's Degree with at least 5+ years of experience in Mechanical or Optical Engineering or relevant science fields.
  • Relevant laser industry experience, a plus.
  • Expert proficiency in Solidworks software package.
  • Familiarity with Arena PLM is a plus.
  • Understanding of system level interactions between optics, electronics, and mechanical parts to enable effective problem solving at the system level down to the individual piece part level.
  • Able to communicate effectively with peers, interdisciplinary engineering groups, customers, vendors, and across cultures. Able to give effective technical presentations up to the Product Life Cycle (PLC) level.
  • Abel to test and qualify optical components, electronics, modules. Able to work with suppliers to improve incoming material quality and acceptance.
  • Able to read technical drawings, understand BOMs, and use a variety of precision testing and measuring instruments.
  • Self-driven individual with keen technical ability, systematic approach, detail-oriented, excellent problem-solving skills, positive attitude, and strong team player.
Salary & Benefits:
The base salary range for this full-time position is $140,000 - $160,000. Your base salary and title will be determined based on the location, experience, qualification, skills, and knowledge, level, and pay of other employees in similar positions.
