ROLE

Supervises and motivates the Waste Zero team and leads initiatives to meet waste diversion program goals while maintaining compliance. Interfaces directly with governmental entities and a wide range of customers and business associates to increase recycling and composting efforts. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF WASTE ZERO MANAGER

  • Develops, in accordance with general management, strategies for diversion programs to ensure diversion goals are met.
  • Manages and directs the activities of the Waste Zero team to set priorities and initiatives to increase diversion, provide community outreach, and training.
  • Implements diversion programs for an operating company or across multiple operating company(ies).
  • Collaboratively interfaces with governmental staff, elected officials, representatives of governmental agencies, City department staff and Company management to effectively promote diversion programs.
  • Attends professional association meetings.
  • Prepares and delivers speeches and presentations within the community and for customers.
  • Performs community relations activities involving representing Recology to local membership associations and manages the logistics and coordination of local community events.
  • Responds to inquiries for information and service from customers and general public.
  • Calls upon existing customers to obtain feedback and assurance of continued quality service.
  • Develops new customers while providing service and information to existing customers.
  • Identifies and contacts potential customers/decision maker or influencer.
  • Responds to RFP's and manages the maintenance of the contracts related to Waste Zero activities.
  • Ability to have a flexible work schedule based on business needs.
  • Travels frequently to various offsite meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

  • Experience in waste industry, recycling programs, community relations, or related field preferred.
  • Principles of personnel training, supervision and evaluation.
  • Supervisory techniques, resource allocation, planning and budgeting.
  • Technical and professional principles, practices, laws, applications and programs in position related area.
  • Current developments and trends in areas of expertise.
  • Computer programs, including Microsoft Office suite of applications.
  • Possession of a high school diploma or GED.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License.

  • Presents ideas effectively to individuals or groups and delivers presentations suited to the characteristics and needs of the audience.
