Position description

The Yildiz lab at the UCSC seeks qualified candidates for an Assistant Project Scientist to study host-pathogen interactions.

The key job responsibilities will include conducting in-depth research on Vibrio species, exploring their biology, investigating the intricacies of infection processes and host-pathogen interactions, and characterizing in vitro and in vivo biofilm formation. The selected scientist will be responsible for investigating the roles of cyclic-di-GMP signaling pathways in motility, biofilm formation, maintenance, and dissolution.

The successful candidate will also utilize advanced imaging techniques to visualize biofilms, apply molecular genetics techniques, and effectively analyze experimental data to derive meaningful conclusions. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams will be integral to the success of this role.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proven track record in Vibrio cholerae genetics research, possess expertise in advanced imaging, molecular genetics, and functional genomics, and exhibit proficiency in analyzing in vivo and in vitro biofilms. Furthermore, the candidate should have excellent analytical skills and a history of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals.

The selected scientist should have effective communication and teamwork skills, as they will collaborate with colleagues in microbiology, molecular biology, and bioinformatics to integrate research findings into broader projects.
