Overview:

Delivers timely news, insight and analysis about the venture capital industry and its participants in line with principles of accuracy, independence and freedom from bias.

Responsibilities:

Writes stories with accuracy and speed and in accordance with Reuters' principles and operating standards. Gathers information to break news and write stories. Builds and maintains a set of contacts to break news. Builds expertise and knowledge to broaden and deepen coverage. Embraces the principle of telling stories using the most appropriate media available. Understands the news needs of our business and interacts with clients and business stakeholders. Is most likely an expert in the areas of venture capital and startup companies and technologies.

Works as a specialist in the venture capital business and the venture capital ecosystem, which includes venture capital firms, startup companies, limited partners in venture funds and the law firms and investment banks that serve venture capital firms. Focuses on writing and reporting as a priority.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree required. Degree in Journalism is a plus, but not required.

Required Skills:

Ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience covering the venture capital industry and/or the technology industry. Candidate must be a self starter and a skilled reporter and story teller. This position requires someone who can (1) break news on our website, (2) write analytical news stories for our weekly publication, and (3) write lengthy, captivating features for our monthly magazine. The candidate must be able to take complex issues and explain them simply. Candidate must be adept at identifying trends and other interesting stories in the venture capital world by nurturing VC sources. Candidate should be personable and have strong communication skills.

Desired Skills:

Ideal candidate will have experience with public speaking and moderating panels. Will also have a genuine interest in the venture industry, its participants and the constant stream of new technologies in which venture capitalists invest. Candidate should have a can-do attitude and be eager to take on new responsibilities and challenges.
